Zack Snyder, the director of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, acknowledged his intention to include a Kryptonian element in Wonder Woman in his version of the DC Extended Universe when speaking at this weekend's "Full Circle" convention.
It's no secret that director Zack Snyder had some rather original concepts for the DC Extended Universe, and it has now been shown that one of them involved connecting Wonder Woman to Superman in an unexpected way.
We've heard that he thought about saying that the Kryptonians that escaped the scout ship in Man of Steel might have been Earth's first Amazons, and Snyder expanded on the concept this past weekend at the "Full Circle" event. He explained that the Greek God Zeus would "possibly" appear in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice to introduce Diana Prince.
Naturally, he was revealed to be Diana's father in Wonder Woman, indicating that the heroine shared Kal-El's alien ancestry.
There is a version of the debate about magic and the gods that goes something like, 'Okay, that's cool, I guess. Where do gods come from is a more scientific question, though. We had messed around with that quite a bit, Snyder thought.
Visual effects manager Then John "D.J." Des Jardin chimed in with another idea that had been abandoned. This one was intended to show that Ares crashed the alien ship from Man of Steel into the ice, killing the Kryptonians who were on board, and it was going to make an unexpected connection between Diana and Superman once more.
Although there is nothing inherently wrong with either of these concepts, it seems like connective tissue is being created more for aesthetic purposes than for a compelling narrative need.
The new Max TV series, which DC Studios has compared to Game of Thrones, will tell us more about the history of Themyscira while Wonder Woman's place in the new DC Universe is uncertain.
